Mention Types

Understanding the difference between Posts, Comments, Threads, and Replies.

Not all mentions carry the same weight. The Type column in the Mentions Feed tells you what kind of content captured your brand:

  • Post — a standalone piece of content where your brand is the main subject or prominently mentioned. Posts on X or YouTube tend to have the highest reach.

  • Thread — a discussion thread where your brand comes up. Common on Reddit and Hacker News. A single thread can generate many follow-on comments.

  • Comment — a response within someone else's thread or video. Lower reach individually, but comments in active threads can still accumulate significant visibility.

  • Reply — a direct reply to another comment. Usually the lowest reach, but useful for understanding sentiment in specific conversations.

💡 Post and Thread types are usually the ones worth acting on first — they set the frame for how your brand is discussed. Comments and Replies are useful for understanding the nuance of a conversation but rarely need a direct response.
